Ivan Suminski, violin

Ivan Suminski is the oldest brother and the oldest of three siblings in the family. He has studied violin since the age of five under Susan Raguse, Annie Chalex Boyle, Laura Speck-Camacho, and currently under Federico Agostini at the Eastman School of Music, where he majors in violin performance.  Ivan has attended the Vianden Chamber Music Festival in Vianden, Luxembourg, as well as the Stringwood Chamber Music Festival.  In the summer of 2014, Ivan toured the country as a member of the National Youth Orchestra, the United States' premier youth ensemble.  He was also a founding member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra Civic Chamber Strings Honors Quartet from 2012 to 2014.  He was a finalist in the 2013 Michigan Youth Arts Concerto Competition, and performed with the Michigan Youth Arts Honors Orchestra in the same year. He is a recipient of the 2014 Grand Traverse Musicale Dr. and Mrs. Richard Schilling Scholarship.

 

Elizabeth Suminski, cello

Elizabeth Suminski is the mother of Ivan and Nicholas and manager of the Suminski Family Piano Trio. She double-majored in cello performance and medicine at the University of Notre Dame. She performs regularly as a member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

 

Nicholas Suminski, piano

Nicholas Suminski is the younger brother in the family.  He has studied piano for fifteen years under Michael Coonrod at Interlochen Center for the Arts, former New Zealand School of Music professor of piano Dierdre Irons, and currently studies under Catherine Kautsky at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, where he is a piano performance major.  He has attended the Vianden Chamber Music Festival in Vianden, Luxembourg and the Amalfi Coast Festival in Maiori, Italy, as well as the Interlochen Piano Institute and Summer Camp.  He has been featured twice on Interlochen Public Radio.  He won second prize at the 2013 Michigan Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition, was named alternate in the Senior division at the 2015 Wisconsin Music Teachers National Association competition, and was a finalist at the 2014 Hope College Young Artists Piano Competition.  In addition, he was a member of the Traverheim chamber ensemble, which took first place in the Nelson/Marlborough District of the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest.  At Lawrence, he is a recipient of a Warch Conservatory Scholarship and an Accompanying Fellowship, as well as a winner of the 2015 Grand Traverse Musicale Dr. and Mrs. Richard Schilling Scholarship.
